American Red Cross
The new headquarters for the Washtenaw County chapter of the American Red Cross nearly doubles the space compared to their previous headquarters. Multiple levels segment uses for security, and to work with the existing sloping site, but with barrier free access throughout. Low cost finishes were used inventively on the interior to provide color and life to the space. The images include a color rendering prepared during design to assist the Red Cross with fundraising.
Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum
The 1998 expansion of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum more than tripled the size of the original building. Since opening, the expansion of this popular children’s and science museum has resulted in record levels of membership, visitors, and gift shop sales. CDI has stayed involved since the expansion, working on many of the exhibit spaces including the Building-In-A-Building exhibit.
Food Gatherers
By 2012, Food Gatherers (a food rescue organization) had already outgrown their 10-year old warehouse (designed by another firm). After extensive discussions about the organization’s needs, a decision was made to also include an office expansion, new entry, and façade renovation in the project. The resulting construction has facilitated improved efficiency, and significant growth in the organization’s operations.
